Welcome to Dhaka International University
Welcome to DIU

INTRODUCTION

If you’re looking for a place where passion meets purpose, welcome to the Department of Civil Engineering at Dhaka International University. We’re more than just a department—we’re a community, a family of thinkers, builders, doers, and dreamers. With over 1,000 students, including international ones, and a strong network of more than 3,000 alumni, our legacy is built on hard work, dedication, and real-world impact.

We currently have 36 full-time faculty members who are not just teachers, but mentors, researchers, and guides—people who genuinely care about your growth. Over the past few years, they’ve published quality research in top journals and stayed deeply involved in solving real-life engineering problems. The classroom is just the beginning.

To bring learning to life, we’ve built 10 advanced labs, each supervised by skilled lab instructors who make sure students learn with both head and hands. From structural design to transportation systems, from geotechnical investigations to concrete technology, and from environmental engineering to seismic analysis—our labs are equipped with the tools and expertise to help you explore, experiment, and truly understand the heart of Civil Engineering.

But we don’t stop at academics. We believe university life should prepare you for life. That’s why we arrange skill-building workshops, professional certification courses, and regular field visits—all while you’re still a student. And if you're planning for higher studies abroad, we’ll be there from day one, helping you every step of the way.

We also make sure you enjoy the journey. Our students take part in all kinds of co-curricular and extracurricular activities—competitions, cultural events, seminars, sports—you name it. These aren’t just add-ons. They’re a core part of what makes our department special.

Our graduates go on to do incredible things—in Bangladesh and beyond. Whether it’s working with top construction firms, joining government services, or pursuing advanced degrees overseas, they carry the DIU Civil spirit with them.

We’re constantly growing, constantly improving. But at our heart, we remain committed to one thing: helping our students become engineers who care, who think critically, and who build for a better future.

DEPARTMENT HEAD

S M SAZZAD AHMED SHOVON Assistant Professor & Chairman [email protected]

Welcome to the Department of Civil Engineering at Dhaka International University. It’s a privilege to lead a department where passionate educators, talented students, and dedicated staff work together to build not only infrastructure—but futures. Civil Engineering is at the heart of national progress, and we take that responsibility seriously. Our goal is to produce skilled, ethical, and forward-thinking engineers who are ready to contribute meaningfully to society. With a strong foundation in theory, hands-on training in ten fully equipped labs, regular site visits, and sessions with industry professionals, we ensure our students are prepared for real-world challenges from day one.

Beyond academics, we focus on developing confident, well-rounded individuals. Our department supports students through career-building workshops, guidance for higher studies, and opportunities to grow both personally and professionally. Whether you're a current student, a proud alum, or someone considering joining our Civil Engineering family, I invite you to explore what we have to offer. Here, you’ll find a community that believes in hard work, innovation, and the power of engineering to shape a better tomorrow.
